Google Press Day, Google Announcements

I’m at Google’s Analyst Day. Will not be live blogging, but you can watch the webcast or check out Phillip Lesson’s blog, Google Blogoscoped (just keep on hitting refresh for most recent news).

Google is making the following releases. These should be available through Google Labs later today.
Google Trends
-You can see the trend of search history for keywords. Nice next step over http://inventory.overture.com.
Google Desktop v 4.0
-Gadgets (think Konfabulator, now Yahoo Widgets) - get a lot of information without launching browser. Recommendation engine built in so you can find other gadgets. When you install Google Desktop, you’re prompted to set up a Google Homepage.
Google Co-op
-First foray into social search. Google is not always the expert. This allows us to leverage the expertise of our users and partners. You can subscribe to people or partners (6 initial partners - OpenTable, GapMinder, Digg News, People (for celebrity profiles), Wine Spectator, Fandango) you are interested in.
-Health Vertical - When you type in ‘Malaria’ you’re given a lot of refinement options. CDC might be a co-op partner
Google Notebook (launching next week)
-Little window which follows you around. On the search results, there’s a little link called ‘Duly Noted’ and it adds a note to the notepad. You can pick up (copy) text, pictures, etc. and put it on the notebook. You can then open up the full view, re-arrange it, add notes. You can make the notebook public and share it (email it to friends and family). This is obviously a threat to social bookmarking companies like Kaboodle.

Core theme - centered around search.
