Shopping.com Revenue Numbers

Ok, I said I’d listen to the eBay earnings call, but never did…and therefore I missed Shopping.com’s Q4 revenue numbers. Thanks to everyone who pointed out my mistake.

From eBay’s conference call:
“Shopping.com also had an outstanding Q4, remaining the leading online comparison shopping site with 50 million unique visitors worldwide in December, and it was a top destination for shoppers seeking the season’s hot products. As a result of the strong holiday season, Shopping.com generated over $51 million of revenue, outperformed our Q4 guidance by over $16 million, and exceeded the top end of the full year guidance range that Shopping.com management had provided at the beginning of 2005.”

My thoughts:
1. As expected, there’s no mention of segment profit which EW Scripps breaks out for Shopzilla (I would too, if I had margins of 30%+).

I originally estimated Shopping.com’s profit, but I had a couple people point out possible errors in my calculations…I will post estimated profit numbers again soon. 2005 revenues totaled aprx. $136.7m.

2. eBay says that Shopping.com “outperformed our Q4 guidance by over $16 million,” but we all know that the guidance was under-estimated, so ignore this comment.

3. Exceeded the guidance range that Shopping.com had provided at the beginning of 2005? So the company outperformed expectations set before taking into account any benefits that came from teaming up with eBay. Congratulations! How about expectations set after the eBay acquisition…after Shopping.com was promoted on eBay’s homepage, some of eBay’s product pages, and through a PayPal site?
