Shopping.com and eBay, PayPal and Shopping.com

Updated: See below for more on Shopping.com and PayPal UK.

Since I’m not sure everyone who reads the blog checks out comments, I wanted to point out that an ad for Shopping.com is now showing up on eBay searches. Right now it’s pretty hidden (at the bottom of the page), and clicking through on the ad brings you to the Shopping.com homepage as opposed to being contextually relevant to an eBay search, but it’s a start. Thanks, Scot, for pointing this out!

Shopping.com on eBay

The only other place I’ve seen a sign of potential integration was an email survey sent from Shopping.com asking if merchants used or would like to use PayPal as a payment method. The email was sent out on October 20th.

Update: I also found information about PayPal UK and Shopping.com working together (I don’t know anything about the news source, netimperative, though, so take it with a grain of salt).

Sadly, eBay launched Reviews and Guides without Epinions being invited to the party, but this was most likely just because eBay had the project in the hopper well before the Shopping.com acquisition.

Hey Brian,

I forgot to mention there’s also a new little ebay link below the google adwords on shopping.com whcih I believe is a new integration point since the deal closed->

Look in the sponsored listings box under the fifth listing under a grey line, but still in the box.

Interestingly it doesn’t seem to appear on “item” pages->

I think that eBay listing has been there for a long time. But I can’t wait to see it on the product page - or at least a new tab for auctions.

I’m interested to see how this plays out. I’ve seen the standard sponsored listings at the bottom, but below there are now “Featured Listings from Ebay”. I sense this is just the beginning… will our merchant’s product listings be going up against EBay auctions of some guy selling product out of his garage? Or will EBay spin off a comparison engine of “auction only items” that are competing against other EBayers — leaving us traditional merchants to “battle amongst ourselves?” The potential is huge for them and I’m anxious to hear what their plans are and how this will affect merchants.
